Haven Hospice puts on its 10th Anniversary fundraising event, ViVA! — the height of celebration to raise awareness and funds for much-needed services in the denouement of our lives.

Our family members mean the world to us, and often healthcare choices can be difficult to make, especially when facing a life-limiting illness. With an amazing team of staff and volunteers, Haven Hospice brings comfort, care and compassion to the patients and families they serve in North Florida. At Haven, they believe that “every day is a gift.” This year, Haven Hospice will hold its tenth annual fundraising event ViVA! 2014 in Gainesville to support the unreimbursed programs and services they offer. Please come on out to Rembert Farms and join us for this African Safari-themed fundraiser and have a wild time!
Before we tell you all about ViVA! 2014, a few of you may be wondering …what is hospice exactly?
Hospice professionals work with patients and families to create a plan of care that will manage the distressing pain and symptoms of a life-limiting illness, as well as coordinate the patient’s care and medications with their physician and other healthcare providers. Hospice services can be delivered in the home, in a skilled nursing facility or in a hospice care center. Haven Hospice services and programs are all-encompassing and provide assistance with the physical, medical, emotional, and spiritual challenges associated with advanced illnesses.
Talking about hospice care with your family can be really difficult. When is it a good time to talk about hospice?
Understanding when curative therapies and treatments are no longer a feasible option can provide the patient and family with an opportunity to ask questions regarding other available and important options such as hospice care. Patients and their families often tell Haven Hospice staff that they wished they had known about hospice sooner and that they wish they had enrolled in hospice care earlier. Too often, the discussion about what to do when curative therapies and treatments are no longer feasible is often delayed. Timely access to the right care plan is important – to maximize the quality of life, not to hasten deterioration.
Members of the Haven Hospice care team can be most helpful when they have time to build a trusting relationship with patients and their loved ones before the situation becomes critical. Haven Hospice professionals provide expert pain and symptom management to promote and maximize the quality of life so that the patient can spend more time with family and friends as well as enjoy favorite activities.
Haven believes that hospice is about living and their mission is to honor life by providing comfort, care, and compassion to patients and families, regardless of their ability to pay. The tenth annual ViVA! 2014 event will raise funds for patient care, grief support and educational programs that Haven Hospice offers. So we hope to see you there! Last year, over 600 attendees enjoyed a fantastic carnival event and this year, and it is hoped that even more supporters will to go on safari with Haven Hospice at ViVA! 2014 on April 12.
Many thanks to those who came out to the Rembert Farm for the 10th Anniversary ViVA! 2014 Kick-off Party this past summer had a sneak peak at the new theme – African Safari. Attendees were whisked away to the African continent by the music and dance performances from the University of Florida African Studies Department and incredible cuisine from Blue Water Bay. African reptiles and turtles from Hogtown Reptile Shop were also on hand to welcome the crowd. And this was just the kick-off event!
This year’s African Safari themed event on April 12 is sure to be wild! Haven Hospice would like to thank Davis and Judi Rembert, along with the entire Rembert Family, especially Jonathan Rembert, for hosting the kick-off event and we look forward to being at the Rembert Farm for ViVA! 2014 in April!
