Wear The Fund
Wear The Fund, an online business started by two University of Florida graduates, provides customers with the opportunity to purchase a T-shirt for $20 and then donate 20 percent of the subtotal to a charity. The screen-printing service also gives 10 percent of proceeds to the nonprofit partners.
The charities include the Jack and Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Alzheimer’s Association, Lewis P. Tabarrini Children’s Music Outreach Foundation, Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and Kiwanis International Foundation.
Customers can choose a specific charity that is important to them. However, Wear The Fund encourages customers to disperse the donation to all of the charities.
Sam Lewis, CEO and original founder of Wear The Fund, said he wanted to build a business that would create more value than just obtaining a profit. The University of Florida alumni said social entrepreneurial organizations, like TOMS, inspired him to create Wear The Fund.
G.A.I.N, which stands for Give, Act, Inspire and Network, and the Wear The Fund logo, which includes a peace sign to inspire a call for action, are incorporated into the T-shirt designs.
By the end of 2013, Wear The Fund hopes to give back $20,000 to its nonprofit partners.
